unbelievably amazing July 13, 1998 10 out of 13 found this review helpful
This review is pointless, since anyone who cares enough about rock to read these reviews must undoubtedly own this already. No matter what kind of music you like, this is a great album. If you like alternative, though, it's the greatest. It's my favorite, and I doubt I will ever enjoy one as much. Only the Beatles could be a more influential band than this, and this record shows it. "Sunday Morning" is the only track not produced by Andy Warhol, and has an 8-track depth filled with viola, vocal harmony, and strange instruments. After that the album is uncompromising in it's attack. I've been told it works better on record, but I would have worn this record out many times over. The fury of "European Son" on digital is enough for anyone anyway. Don't even waste your time reading reviews when you could be listening to this album. If you don't have money get some now!, check under couches, beg people you know, and get put together the cash so you can enjoy a piece of sonic perfection.
Want some Smack? June 3, 1998 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is probably one of the best albums ever recorded, regardless of the music you are "in to". This record makes you wanna move to the Village and get hooked on Heroin. Well, or at least fantasize about hangin' with Lou and the Gang. Simply put: This album is just as addictive as the stuff they sing about, so if you are a Junkie you gotta have it.
The most influential recording ever made? May 14, 1998 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you haven't heard this CD, you absolutely must, because this is where it all started. There isn't a punk, alternative, industrial, new wave or experimental band in the last 30 years that hasn't been touched in some way by this album. A timeless mix of drugs, R&B rhythms, insanity, viola, drones, folk, feedback, pop and Greenwich Village poetry viewed through the lens of the New York art scene of the late 60's. Rife with references to heroin, war, love and death, this album has it all, and every song has become an underground classic. No rock lyrics written since have begun to cover the ground traveled by Lou Reed in these 45 minutes of sonic sacredness and profanity.
COOL,DIFFERENT ROCK May 13, 1998 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
I started listening to The Velvet Underground recently, and though it's around 30 years ago since they played, and even though there are a lot of new music styles to choose from, I stick to bands like Velvet and The Doors! I love Rock n Roll and bands like Velvet Underground are simply the best! Lou is a great singer! He's got a special voice that I LOVE, and I just love the whole band! They are soooo cool! Songs like Heroin and Venus in Furs makes me filled with this special feeling! It's magic to hear their sound! I simply love Velvet Underground and I hope they're still goin'strong! Peace, Alexandra,Sweden.
